For Julie Knight, watching Bay Pavilions come to life was the inspiration she needed to embark on a new fitness journey. Eager to make aqua aerobics a regular part of her routine, she joined as a platinum member before the Bay Pavilions opened in June 2022—and hasn’t looked back since.

The challenge motivated her to step outside her comfort zone, set new fitness and life goals, and push herself further than she ever thought possible. From winning that challenge to completing the Winter Mini Triathlon Series, Julie is now preparing for her first full triathlon—a goal she once believed was out of reach.
Julie’s transformation has been remarkable, but her journey at Bay Pavilions goes beyond fitness. “The friendships I’ve made here mean the world to me. We check in on each other, encourage one another, and we even catch up outside the gym,” Julie said. She and her new friends regularly attend events together at the Yuin Theatre, continuing to build connections that extend beyond workouts.
What truly sets Julie apart is her dedication. Over the past 12 months, she has been the number one visitor to Bay Pavilions more often than not. What started as a few aqua aerobics sessions has turned into multiple daily visits, whether for classes, workouts, or simply to enjoy a coffee with friends. The café staff even know her name and order, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere she loves.
One achievement that might seem small to others but is a huge personal victory for Julie is being able to do sit-ups. “I never thought I’d be doing this much,” she said. “What used to be difficult is now becoming easier, and I have the confidence to try new things that I once avoided.”
For anyone new to Bay Pavilions, Julie’s advice is simple: “Try a range of classes, talk to the instructors and other members. The gym and classes may seem daunting at first, but the support you’ll find here makes all the difference.”
Before joining, Julie was inactive and avoided exercise, but now she’s thriving in a positive and healthy lifestyle. Every visit to Bay Pavilions is filled with encouragement from staff and friendly members who share the same goals. “Every time I walk through the door, I feel welcome. The staff listen to feedback, they’re always positive, and the friendships I’ve formed here have become an important part of my life,” Julie said.
